| THE
FILM
Without Walls is a documentary about the phenomenon of separation;
from the external walls or fences built between various nations
in conflict to the internal walls that we construct metaphorically
inside ourselves. From Berlin where the wall came tumbling down,
to Northern Ireland where a wall has existed for 33 years, to the
recent construction of the wall between Israel and Palestine, Without
Walls looks at the phenomenon of separation, where it actually begins,
and most importantly what creative solutions exist to help remove
the structures of belief that keep us in a state of separation.
With a strong focus on the newly proposed wall between the US /
Mexico border, the film also references many other key locations
including: Israel/Palestine, North/South Korea, Cyprus/Turkey, Northern
Ireland, Botswana/ Zimbabwe, India/ Pakistan, South Africa, and
Tibet/China. The film gives voice to people separated by economics,
ideology and often time’s war to those who are working on
solutions that unite rather than divide. Moving from the personal
to the political, the internal to the external, this documentary
shows how conflict often begins within an individual, and that a
conflict between two people is not that different than those that
are created between nations and borders.
THE SOUNDTRACK
Musicians from opposing sides of the various conflicts will work
together, as well as individually, to create songs based on the
theme “without walls". Intimate scenes of musical collaboration
and interviews with the musicians will be inter-woven in the film.
Musician’s respective styles and traditions from their own
countries will add to the rich cultural tapestry. Some music will
be brought into a contemporary context for mainstream release and
videos will be created for distribution on MTV and VH1, etc. The
soundtrack will be produced as both a DVD and as an audio CD, which
would contain at least one “mainstream hit” styled song,
who’s lyrical content encapsulates the overall mission of
the film, to be played on radio stations worldwide.
THE WEBSITE
As a virtual meeting place where there are "no walls",
the I See You interactive website will operate as a social network
for all organizations and individuals working on solutions to border
conflicts around the globe. There will be chat rooms for dialogue
on various topics relating to each one of the regions covered in
the documentary with specific links to various sites of organizations
working in areas of conflict resolution and cooperation. Complete
with photos and audio clips from the film, there will be educational
information about each of the countries featured in the film including
cultural and geographical information as well as information from
both perspectives of a given conflict.
THE EXHIBIT
Peace of the Wall (POW) is an educational multi- media exhibit created
by prominent artists from the various countries featured in the
film. When possible, artists from opposing sides of a conflict will
collaborate to create the individual panels. These individual peace
panels will be joined together in a colorful, creative tapestry
as an alternative to the current structures that exist in many of
these regions. The exhibit will be comprised of 12 to 24 panels
representing a “wall” with a blank panel in the center
on which the film Without Walls will be projected. The exhibit will
be scheduled to tour in large-scale festivals, universities and
museums in the United States and around the globe. At the end of
the exhibit's tour the individual panels will be auctioned off and
the funds from all of these sales will go to support various organizations
working for peace and cooperation around the globe.
